FEATURED CASE STUDY

Habitat Creation Coney Meadows, Droitwich

Coney Meadows is part of a nationwide project to restore the UK’s wetlands. Since the 17th century, large areas of reedbeds have been stripped and converted into agricultural land, massively reducing the number of habitats available for wetland animals.

Changing the Shape of the River Derwent, Derby

Following the storm seasons of 2023 & 2024, the EA set out to review its impact on the UK’s waterways. The River Derwent in Derby was flagged after a sonar scan of its navigation identified a scour hole – a direct result of heavy rainfall pushing sediment downstream.

FEATURED CASE STUDY

Glaxo Smith Klein
Factory Site,
Greenford Green,
London

The Rothen Group were approached by Galldris Construction Ltd at the ECI stage to deliver the marine elements of their ambitious redevelopment works to the Glaxo Smith Klein factory site in Greenford Green, London.

Like all water-based infrastructure, marinas are vulnerable to wear and tear. Gradual erosion, rusting, and other damage will degrade infrastructure over time.

Marina maintenance involves dredging, piling, pontoon and jetty repairs, bank stabilisation, and the general upkeep of walkways, moorings, and other infrastructure. Of course, not all of these tasks are essential at any one time. That’s why we offer inspections and reactive repairs to keep marinas safe, accessible, and compliant with waterway regulations.

What is marina maintenance?

Yes. Silt, sediment, and other debris will gradually accumulate below the water line, increasing the risk of flooding and preventing boats from using the site. Our specialist marina dredging services remove built-up silt, debris, and vegetation that would otherwise restrict depth, damage boats, and reduce berth availability.

We rely on a fleet of floating dredgers and low-impact machinery to minimise disruption during the works. We dispose of all the material removed from the site (if necessary), turning it into compost and topsoil.

Do you offer dredging for marinas?

The cost of dredging a marina depends on its size, depth, access conditions, and the volume of material to be removed. We cannot provide an estimated cost without a site visit. We’ll evaluate the current issues and provide a detailed, transparent quote based on your specific requirements. Wherever possible, we also advise on options for sediment reuse or low-cost disposal.

How much does it cost to dredge a marina?

Marina pilings are vertical supports driven into the bed to anchor pontoons, moorings, and walkways. You might notice the wooden, steel, or plastic poles sticking out from the water’s surface. These poles must be securely lodged within the bed to hold the immense weight of boats or pontoons that rely on these pilings to stay securely in place.

But marina pilings also provide structural stability, holding up pontoons or walkways, especially in changing water levels or high-traffic areas. As marina piling contractors, we use steel, timber, or plastic piles, depending on the site and use case.

What are marina pilings? And why are they important?

Yes. As an experienced marina construction company, we offer full design-and-build services for new marinas, mooring extensions, and infrastructure upgrades. We can construct new or refurbish existing pontoons or jetties, create new moorings, and generally transform a marina with our services.

We’ve worked on numerous sites across the UK and consistently deliver remarkable transformations. We even operate in sensitive, high-use, or protected environments, tackling the project with care and precision to minimise noise, disruption, and environmental impact.

Can you build or extend marinas from scratch?
