Culvert Maintenance & Repair Services

Culverts are a vital part of water management infrastructure, allowing water to pass safely beneath roads, railways, embankments and other structures. Over time, culverts can deteriorate due to age, erosion, movement, blockages or structural damage, increasing the risk of flooding and asset failure.

The Rothen Group provides comprehensive culvert maintenance, repair and rehabilitation services for waterways, drainage authorities, local authorities, contractors and private clients. Our experienced teams deliver cost-effective solutions that extend the lifespan of existing structures while minimising disruption to the surrounding environment.

Whether a culvert requires structural repairs, improved access or a full lining solution, we have the expertise and specialist equipment to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Comprehensive Culvert Repair Solutions

We offer a complete range of culvert maintenance and repair services tailored to the condition of each structure. Where possible, we utilise trenchless repair methods such as UV-cured CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) lining and fusion welded HDPE pipe relining, reducing excavation requirements, minimising disruption and extending the operational life of existing culverts.

Our services also include pressure grouting to fill voids and stabilise surrounding ground, helping to prevent water ingress and further structural deterioration.

Where structural repairs are required, we construct new headwalls in both brick and cast concrete, as well as carrying out sympathetic repairs to existing brick headwalls. We also undertake the replacement of penstock paddles, installation of scour protection to prevent erosion around culvert entrances and outlets, and improvements to safe access through the installation of new access lids, access steps and edge and fall protection systems.

Every project is planned around the specific site conditions, ensuring a practical, durable solution that improves the long-term performance and safety of the culvert.

FEATURED CASE STUDY

Habitat Creation Coney Meadows, Droitwich

Coney Meadows is part of a nationwide project to restore the UK’s wetlands. Since the 17th century, large areas of reedbeds have been stripped and converted into agricultural land, massively reducing the number of habitats available for wetland animals.

Changing the Shape of the River Derwent, Derby

Following the storm seasons of 2023 & 2024, the EA set out to review its impact on the UK’s waterways. The River Derwent in Derby was flagged after a sonar scan of its navigation identified a scour hole – a direct result of heavy rainfall pushing sediment downstream.

What culvert repair services does The Rothen Group provide?

Yes. In many cases we can use trenchless repair techniques such as UV-cured CIPP lining or fusion welded HDPE pipe relining. These methods reduce disruption, minimise excavation and provide a durable structural repair.

Can culverts be repaired without excavation?

Signs that a culvert may require maintenance include cracking, water ingress, collapsed sections, erosion around the inlet or outlet, damaged headwalls, restricted flow or evidence of flooding. Early intervention can prevent more extensive and costly repairs.

When should a culvert be repaired?

Our experienced teams combine specialist water engineering expertise with a wide range of repair techniques, allowing us to deliver tailored solutions for each site. We focus on extending the life of existing infrastructure while completing works safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
